Hi all.
I bought a '54 Willys CJ3B about a month ago. Runs fine, but needs a little work. Are their any other Willys owners in the Pensacola area? Could definitely use some advice from someone, and having them actually look at my jeep would really help. It drives just fine, but am having 1) side play problems with brake pedal, and 2) a sound from transmission when in 3rd gear that sounds like a bearing, although I am not sure on that one. I am fairly certain what my options are for fixing the pedal side play problem, but the transmission noise does concern me. In addition, the hood is not in good shape. No visible corrosion on the hood, but the paint is badly cracked in several areas. I know diddly squat about body work. Thanks. Pete I live just north of 10 mile rd.

Welcome, and I'm not sure who in the area has specific information on your gen of jeep. I personally am well versed across the jeep generations, I would gladly help you out or can point you to the right people who can. You are close to where I live in in cantonment.

Mpja, thanks so much for your reply. I do not have a garage. Although I would certainly like to be able to fix most things on my jeep without taking it to a repair shop, it would be great if you (or perhaps someone you could put me in contact with) could take a look at my brake pedal side-play problem? The transmission sound, I fear, will not be something I can fix myself. I just don't have the experience, the proper tools, nor the place to do it.
I am retired, so most of the time I am at home. Pete

I'm retired too, I know longer have a garage either but I'm doing a massive jeep build just in my driveway.

You have exeperience and technical know how in your favor! I haven't done work on any type of vehicle for years. The last time I even turned a wrench on a jeep was a 1945 MB I had, but sold it in 1999 to pay a divorce lawyer fee. Broke my heart to let it go. Prior to that, I owned a '52 M38 in the late 80s, and before that, a 1974 CJ5 with a 304 V8.
I just dropped off my jeep at Vannoys. They will check it out thoroughly tomorrow and let me know what they find. I know at the very least the alignment is hosed. It really needs a lube job, but was going to wait until I get the underside cleaned to see what the true condition is.
Will see what Vannoys finds, and let you know.
Anyway, I'd love to see what you are working on. Pete

Received call from Vannoys. The mech said the previous owner had apparently replaced all the Ujoints, mounts..... All looks in good shape. Still have to check under hood, etc...,but am encouraged. Only thing I know I need to fix for sure is that side play problem on the brake pedal. Pete
