Jeep Fest in Jasper Georgia, I recommend putting it on the list of places to go. The Jeep Fest has a very well built and challenging off road course at the base camp and plenty of vendors, even local residents selling food. Also there are trails that run the mountain range that provide a whole new level of challenges, from the bunny trail to difficult Jeep Fest has on site camping and the city of Jasper has hotels and mutiple camp grounds.
So if you like a good mix of off road terrain and hanging out with good people and great Jeepers, you need to attend the Sheriff Jeep Fest 2016 in Jasper Georgia.

Jasper 2015 was my first Jeep Fest type event. My normal off road activity is to visit off road parks with just a hand-full of Jeeps, and "wheel" all day. This was a very different experience, with over 2000 registered Jeeps and countless non registered Jeeps, the vendors, a Jeep Show and Shine, trails and an obstacle course. I found the event well run overall, especially for the amount of people there. All of your basic needs can be met within a short drive of the event (gas, food lodging)(I could not find any off road fuel).
Just so you know you will be on the trails and obstacle course with 100's of your closest friends, this was odd for me and I didn't really like that aspect. Traffic on the paved roads was heavy as to be expected. It was hot but not crazy hot, shade is at a premium. IT did rain, and a severe thunderstorm with high winds did move thru the area. There was no warning from the Jeep Fest staff about the storm ( that I know off)
We had two groups of Jeepers there from ECJ and we found it very hard to meet up due to an overwhelmed cell phone system. Texts, calls ect did not go out. We had FRS radios and CB but we failed to make that part of our communication plan prior to the event, we were counting on using cell phones. Better planning reference communication is a lesson learned.
My party stayed in a rental house on the side of a mountain 35 miles north in the town of Cherry Log, If I go again I will stay closer. Also if you do rent a cabin in the woods make sure to ask about entry into the cabin, I had to climb a very steep hill with lots of switch backs and the truck towing the Jeep almost didn't make it.
On Sunday we skipped the Jeep Fest and did some local exploring, visited some local antique shops an apple orchard and a place where you can drive a surplus APC! (we just watched). All of the local little towns have a lot of offer. I earned some valuable Husband points that day.
We ate at the Pink pig BBQ It wasn't that good. Most of our meals where cooked at the cabin.
In summary, if I was only able to go to one event / trip and my choices were the Jasper Jeep fest or a weekend wheeling at an OHV like Morris MT, Hot Springs or Chocoloco Mt with just a few people, I would pick the later, but that's just me. All in all it was a great weekend and I am glad I went.
